Quinonez was charged in\u00a0court\u00a0with assault and interfering with a flight crew.<br>SAN DIEGO \u2014 A California woman who allegedly punched a\u00a0steward\u00a0within the\u00a0face and grabbed her hair was charged with assault Wednesday in\u00a0court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vivianna M. Quinonez was also charged with interfering with a flight crew. She is scheduled\u00a0to seem\u00a0in court in\u00a0San Diego\u00a0on Sept. 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The attendant on the Southwest Airlines plane lost two teeth and suffered other injuries to her face on the May 23 flight from Sacramento, California, to\u00a0San Diego, prosecutors said in court documents. A cut under their left eye required four stitches, her left eye was bruised and swollen, and her right arm was bruised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0steward\u00a0had asked Quinonez\u00a0to lock\u00a0her seatbelt, stow her tray table and properly wear her facemask\u00a0because the\u00a0plane began its final descent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quinonez told authorities that she acted in self-defense,\u00a0consistent with\u00a0an\u00a0evidence\u00a0statement. Her attorney, Knut Johnson,\u00a0didn&#8217;t\u00a0immediately\u00a0answer\u00a0an invitation\u00a0for comment. The Sacramento Bee has reported that Quinonez lives\u00a0within the\u00a0Sacramento suburb of Antelope.<br>The incident marked an escalation in unruly behavior by airline passengers and led the president of the flight attendants\u2019 union to\u00a0invite\u00a0more federal air marshals on planes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quinonez also faces charges in state court. Tanya Sierra, a spokeswoman for the\u00a0San Diego\u00a0County district attorney\u2019s office, said she is scheduled\u00a0to seem\u00a0in court on Sept. 10.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vivianna M.
